Smile for the Camera

Smile for the Camera
One sunny day this spring as I drove from Marlinton to Snowshoe I saw a bull laying just next to a fence along the road. I said to myself "He would be so much fun to paint". I drove past, then a mile down the road I changed my mind and turned back. I pulled over and got out and quickly snapped his picture. Later I drew my bull on Arches paper and began painting. It was an interesting week or two while I worked on this painting. One of my friends handed me a tube of Daniel Smile Moonglo watercolor for the shadows. I was hooked on this new color. I was also hooked on stopping whenever your gut tells you to snap a photo reference.
